Just when you thought you couldn't get any cuter then the mini dessert shooters. Remember those push ups ice creams....one of my favorites as a kid, well they found a cool new, fun way to serve dessert to your guest. You can use it as a favor so guest can eat it when they get home. Can't wait to see the delicious desserts people will put in these clear, plastic containers. What do you think?

One important factor to consider when booking your vendors is to make sure they play nicely. Everyone is working for the same cause...YOU! There is no room for ego's or showboating.
(Disclosure: the instances are hypothetical and do not reflect professional vendors)

For Instance the photographer is hogging all of the couple's time and the videographer isn't getting the footage they need. Therefore your wedding video will not be as great as it could be... or vice versa

The DJ is not going by the timeline provided by the wedding coordinator and winds up mixing up the entire

wedding day and throwing everything off schedule.

Ask questions such as...have you worked with a wedding coordinator before? How much time do you need on the schedule...for set up...photographs...etc. ( just in case they need some alone time with bride and groom).

Just doing a little more inquiring can save you a whole lot of stress and drama on your wedding day.

How did you get started?

I have always loved horses and for some reasons, carriages fascinated me. I felt like that was the ultimate test of trust, love and partnership between a horse and his driver. You have to have a very good relationship with your horse to have a safe and fun time for the both of you. The horse must learn to listen to his rider’s voice and rein guides alone to know how to navigate with the carriage. The horse must trust his driver and see him as a leader, so that if things go wrong, the horse looks to his driver for leadership rather than just reacting to the situation. Most horsemen that ride their horses have the reins, voice, seat and legs to guide their horse with. So, I felt like it was a challenge, one that we mastered beautifully.

Now, I was working full-time and found that I had little to no time for my horses. That wasn’t fair to them. I thought why not try to offer my driving skills as a service to others that way I can be with my horses and help someone else out. I picked special occasions like weddings and parties. It’s what we focus on exclusively. The nice thing about that is that we are always involved in a happy occasion, which just makes the whole thing that much more fulfilling. Each one of them is beautiful and we along with the horses fully enjoy them.

Best advice you can give to a bride

Think about what you want to remember about this day when you look back five years down the road. Relax and have fun. This is all about you and your love. You’re proclaiming to the world that you love someone. That is all that matters.

What has been your strangest request?

Strangest request for the carriage out of all of them was that we were requested to give rides at a Hawaiian luau. The horse had a lea on and we had grass skirts. It was fun but different.

Do you work with an assistant?

Yes, my husband accompanies me to all of our events. It is safer to have two handlers for the horses. Also, it is nice to have someone to help you in and out of the carriage.

What would you say is your style?

I would say that we are flexible. I try very hard to coordinate our carriage to the specific event. So, I would say that we are customizable elegance with a dash of fun.

Who is the person you most admire?

My parents as they have earned everything in their lives building up from nothing and will share what they have with others in need happily.

Who is the person that inspired you?

I would have to say my husband Mike. He has been my personal sounding board for ideas, fan club and support through all my work in making this business what it is today. Thanks, baby. I love you with all my heart.

What is your proudest moment in your business?

I would have to say our very first carriage ride. Our neighbor asked if we would be a surprise for his Prom date. We agreed and set about bringing this all together. We didn’t even have a trailer to haul everything. We had to borrow a trailer for the carriage. Our neighbor hauled the carriage and we hauled the horse. Everything came together perfectly. We came around the corner and his date screamed with excitement. Everyone was all smiles and laughter. It was wonderful making them so happy. From that moment on, I was hooked. I wanted to make more people happy.

One of favorite chairs for any wedding is the Chiavari Chair. It screams elegance and swag. You can change out the chair cushions to coordinate with the colors of your wedding. They bring out that extra something and enhance your venue. They range from about $8 to $15 per chair but are well worth it. You can dress them up by adding a chair sash or they look great with out them. They come in various colors such as walnut, black, white, bamboo, mahogany...even clear. How did you get started?

I've been in the video production field for over 7 years. It is the career that I began with, and I have never changed. My passion for video led me to my first job for a large international marketing company based out of Jacksonville, Florida. Best advice you can give to a bride:

Research! Know what you want and understand what you're looking for. Don't settle for less than what you want. Look for a videographer that can give you something more than what everyone else has to offer. It's your special day and your video should show just how unique it actually is.

What has been your strangest request?

We haven’t really had any strange requests. We’ve seen a lot, but we usually see things that are different as funny and unique not strange.

Do you work with an assistant?

We don't have anyone on staff. My wife and I do everything with OwlTrain together. People are always astonished that two people create the services that we offer.

What would you say is your style?

If you're looking for the traditional, sappy, everything in slow motion wedding video, then whatever you do, don't book us! We feature videos that will actually entertain you, your family and your guests. Rest assured your day will be captured and turned into a beautiful production; however, we just don't do...."corny". Your wedding day will be transformed into something with the quality to air on national television. We feature a cinematic approach, then we mix it with a "reality video" style, and then we finally top it off by adding in some music video qualities. And to be quite honest, every video is completely different from the last one. Not only do we arrive before you and leave after you, but we're continually running our cameras to make sure that we capture every single thing that happens! The best way to describe it is to sit down and watch our samples videos. Watch at least the first 4 minutes of each video, and let us know what you think!

Who is the person you most admire?

My dad. He has been in traveling ministry for over 16 years, and through all of the hardships he encounters, he is still doing what he believes God wants him to do.

Who is the person that inspired you?

My mentor is Thomas Griffin. Living in a rural area doesn't always provide people experienced in the video production field. Thomas was my co-worker, and he didn't teach me everything, but he taught me most of what I know. I would bet to say that he is one of the best video/audio production people in the north Florida area.

What is your proudest moment in your business?

Every time we get an email from a bride that says how impressed and how happy they are with their wedding video, it makes us extremely proud. There's nothing more satisfying than someone who truly appreciates our work.

Well it is much easier then the pondering question of the chicken or the egg. Etiquette protocol indicates that the brides name proceeds the grooms on all material prior to the wedding.... Save the dates, invitations, programs, etc.

Once the couple are married and the bride takes her new husband's name her name will follow his name.

Why do you ask? Well according to tradition the brides family pays for the wedding, therefore they are the host.

How did I get started? I started my make-up career with M.A.C cosmetics in Maui, Hawaii in 1997. I didn't have much make-up experience in the beginning but I always had a love for fashion and art, and make-up is the perfect blend of those two industries. Best advice you can give to a bride: My skincare advice is to take care of your skin and eat healthy. It's important to wash your face daily to remove make-up and dirt from your pores, and moisturizing your skin is equally as important for preparing your skin for a smooth make-up application. Also, If you have a healthy eating lifestyle, it will show in your skin. My make-up advice for the wedding day is less make-up is more! Have a look created that looks like you with your features complimented.

What has been your strangest request? The bride wanted to have big false eye lashes placed as bottom eyelashes. I talked her out of them :)

Do you work with an assistant? Sometimes, I hire an assistant when I have big wedding parties, and the client has a short timeframe to get ready on the wedding day.

What would you say is your style? I really don't have a particular style of make-up. Everyone is different and has unique features, and I focus on the art of make-up application to enhance each person's beauty. On some people, I may play up the eyes and apply false lashes and on other clients, I may create a stronger lip and do less on the eyes.

Who is the person you most admire? The person I most admire professionally is Pat McGrath. She is a tremendously amazing and talented internationally known make-up artist! I would love to work with her one day!

Who is the person that inspired you? Earlier in my career, I was inspired by the late Kevyn Aucoin... a celebrity make-up artist whose work was truly incredible. When I first started my make-up career, I purchased all of his make-up books and they helped me understand the true transformation and beauty of make-up artistry. Sam Fine was another celebrity make-up artist who inspired me. I was fortunate enough to assist him once during a make-up class in Atlanta, GA. He taught me how to master the art of blending different colors and foundations.

What is your proudest moment in your business? My proudest moment in my business is when a client loves her make-up so much that her eyes fill with tears of joy! My passion is to create a look that makes someone feel and look as beautiful outside as they are inside.

Weddings for less. I have been asked a million times why does it cost so much for one day? Well one giant reason is...its a lot of work. Another reason is... its not just one day. Many hours of prepping goes into executing a wedding where everything seems perfect.
I know you have seen all the books and the blogs claiming you can have it all for next to nothing. In some cases this may be true but if you read the fine print a little closer you will see...its cheaper because you are doing all the work YOURSELF or hiring amateurs that are just starting out, or students. Many vendors including myself start out cheap because you never realize the amount that goes into a wedding until you have work a wedding or ten. Yes, you did read correctly...including myself. I started out on the low end and with that I made my share of mistakes and ate a lot of ramen noodles. In order to run a successful, legit business cost goes up. Now getting back to the lost cost wedding tips; if you read these books, blogs and such it tells you to cut out all the vendors that help make your day stress free.
- They tell you hire a college student for your photographer.
-Cook yourself.
-Make your own invitations or go to Walmart and get the same invitations millions of other brides have used. -Buy a consignment dress or borrow one.
-Enlist your family and friends
As a wedding planner/coordinator/designer I am selling not only my services, but my experience, expertise, education, your overall experience from beginning to end. . My brides are stress free and get to enjoy their day without worrying about the big or little details. The bride and her family and friends get to enjoy the day and the memories without flooding them with a day of work.
In the background, emails are being sent, appointments are being made, timelines, ordering supplies, your vendors are working for you.
While the bride and her bridesmaids are off getting pampered with hair, make up and enjoying one another company. We are setting up your venue. When the vendors arrive and have questions about set up or time frames they come to us instead of bugging you. You have enough on your plate whether you are nervous or calm.
When the day is all finished and you are whisked away with your new husband. The reception is over and all your guest are heading home. We are cleaning up and gathering your belongings, making sure they get to the proper places. Your photographer is spending hours, even days editing your photographs.

So while it is possible to have a low cost wedding, its at a big expense. Ask the experts on how to keep your wedding at your budget.

Mentioning the Unmentionables

Besides your shoes and your wedding dress, what you hide underneath is just as important. You want it to lift what is suppose to, tuck what it needs to...and give your gown the beautiful silhouette it deserves. Whatever you decide to put over your birthday suit you want it to fit and feel comfortable.
You don't want to constantly tugging or pulling up your bra and if you are wearing a long line bra you don't want it to roll or bunch.
The style of your gown will depend on the type of undergarment you will need. For a slimmer form-fitting dress you may want to consider body shapers.
For a fuller look, you will want a crinoline slip. Be careful, some gowns already have them in the lining. You may also want to consider the weather. If you are having an outdoor ceremony in the summer you may not want to have all of that underneath your gown.

Inspiration Shoot! All Things Made of Honor

Okay so recently we just did an inspiration photoshoot with some great vendors. Gwendolyn Tundermann our last vendor spotlight was our fabulous photographer, which is very important. A beautiful design can look awlful if you don't have the right photographer. I wanted to do something to show our skills, and creativity. You don't always get to show that off when working on an event. I had three tablescapes in mind (well more then that but we had to break it down, more to come later) The first one. I wanted all things that are pink and fun. The centerpieces were proved by S & A Events. I love when a florist can take exactly what you describe and make it come to life. I wanted a centerpiece to mimic the bridal bouquet. We used several shades of pink and cream and set this design outside.

Our second design was inspired by our business and my favorite colors. Green and Black. We were going for a flirty, fun look with this one so in comes the feathers and lace. I was so pleased at how this one came out.

Now we come to our elegant, romantic look.We used slate grey, sangria and silver for this tablescape. I fell in love with the slate grey rosette linens and I knew how I wanted to use it. Crystals, candlelight, roses and bling. I wanted a slightly different look then what we normally see on the chivarli chairs so I played with different looks until I came up with this one. The company I get my linens from were so wonderful they made the special rosettes you see on the back of the chairs from the actual linens.

Where did we get the bling? I am glad you asked. We first heard about Remarkable Rhinestones while watching the David Tutera My Fair Weddings Show. He mentioned the company and I thought-Hmm it must be expensive, my second thought was I have to have them for my photoshoot. I had been searching for some type of bling napkin rings but could not find exactly what I wanted. I decided to call contact them and find out how much it would cost to use just a few. To my amazement it was not that expensive

Congratulations to Prince William and Princess Catherine (Kate!!!)! 04-29-2011

We all have grown up to the Disney stories of common girls finding their prince such as Cinderella and Snow white. I can still here the song "Someday my Prince will come" playing in the back of my mind. Kate has lived that dream for all of us. Prince William and Kate were married this morning in London. at the Westminster Abbey. Kate wore a beautiful gown, simple and elegant. It was designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander. I believe it was just enough and not overdone. Her bouquet was created by Shane Connolly. a small bouquet that consisted of hyacinth, ivy, lily-of-the-valley, sweet William and myrtle. The lily-of-valley represents the return of happiness; sweet William means gallantry; hyacinth is for the constancy of love. Ivy and myrtle represent both love and marriage. Myrtle is said to be the emblem of marriage.

The first kiss was quick but Prince William made up with a second more fitting kiss.

This was truly a joyous event...not everyday does one become a princess.

Leave It To the Professionals~ The Flowers!

I have written many blogs about hiring professional vendors for your wedding day. One reason is the simplest, we want you to enjoy your wedding day, not stress, and you and your family not to have to work on your wedding day. Enjoy the WOW factor of walking into a room and your vision is there...sometimes better. Before I get into it let me begin by saying I have nothing against DIY brides or DIY wedding projects. I think they add extra personality to the wedding. I made my own invitations and programs for my wedding, but it also ended up being rather expensive.

Now for the other reason. Professionals are professionals for a reason. We learn our trade. We have continued education and we have done many weddings to learn what not to do and what works.
I am by no means a florist, can I make a bouquet yes... but do I know how to care for it or how long before the wedding can I make it before it begins to wilt, no. I don't even know the temperature in which flowers do best.

I recently was setting up for a wedding and when we went to get the flowers to put them out we (all the vendors) were shocked and upset.

The flowers basically looked as if they melted but they were placed in the refrigerator and the temperature was too cold. This wedding I was not the planner or the coordinator but I couldn't put these out, I quickly gathered some flowers and do what planners do best...fixed it.

These beauties were sent from another planner, the day of the wedding this is what she found. So please think carefully when choosing your DIY projects. It may seem like you are saving money but in the long run it just causes stress and last minute scrambling.

In honor of Easter we just wanted to share our ideas for an Easter wedding. Colorful pastels flowers and linens. Tulips are a great Easter flower and yes they are in season.

A great way to tell your guest where they are sitting is to put their names and table numbers on colored Easter eggs or something similar. It can also double as a favor.

In the tradition of Easter you can also give your guest chocolate eggs or bunnies. Cookies shaped like Easter eggs or other Easter animals. Jelly beans or even the traditional candied almonds...they are shaped like eggs.

How To Pick the Perfect Venue!

There are a few basic things to consider when selecting a wedding venue.

First, pick locations that can accommodate your guests comfortably. If you plan on having 100 people attend your wedding, don't choose a location that can only fit 75 people, or one that can fit 100 people with no room for other wedding activities.

Research any location requirements.

Some venues require separately held event insurance or private security to be on site. Many locations outlaw certain decorating practices, or allow beer and wine to be served but not hard liquor.

Do your homework to avoid any last minute surprises about your venue. Review all contracts thoroughly and don't be afraid to ask questions. Failure to follow all contract policies can cause you to lose any event deposits or receive additional bills. Organize your entire wedding budget before shopping around for a venue. Don't tour locations that you cannot afford. Put deposit and full payment due dates on your calendar. Missing a payment date may result in losing your venue late in the game, or incurring costly late fees.

Book your wedding and reception venues early. Most venues suggest booking their space nine months to one year in advance. The closer you are to your wedding date the harder it is to find a suitable venue. Research venue locations online to read any site reviews. Consider writing your own review after your event to assist other people planning their weddings in the future.

Here's a list of questions you may want to ask. These questions are often overlooked and forgotten.

What is your maximum capacity for a seated event?

Do you allow music and alcohol on the premises? Are there any restrictions?

Are tables and chairs available at the venue?

Do you require us to work with your preferred vendors?

What time will we gain access to the location? When do we need to be out?

Is the location available the evening before to set up?

Are there any additional insurance requirements?

Do you allow additional décor? Are there any restrictions?

What initial deposit is required?

When is the balance due?

Following these guidelines can help you choose your venue a little easier.

LaShan and Kelvin were married today at the Marriott Jacksonville on January 16, 2011 at 4:30 pm. The ceremony was very touching and included a prerecorded messaged played right before the bride walked into the room. Her father met her at the end of the aisle and they both walked down the aisle to meet her son. Together father and her son gave LaShan away. The customized monogram aisle runner along with their monogramed toasting flutes ( a gift from us) was designed by Ten23 Designs.

The ceremony and reception were draped in shades of dark purple and lavender by Royalty Events. Angie's Cakes provided the delicious cake.

The night was entertained with music from Footloose Entertainment

It was such a pleasure to work with LaShan, we wish her and Kelvin a long a happy marriage.

Best advice you can give to a bride: It’s important to have a vision for your wedding, on how you want your day to go, where you want it to be, and all the details that go into that. You should always stay true to your vision. But also remember that you have lots of people who can help you realize that vision.

What has been your strangest request? We can’t think of any strange requests! If something is important to the couple, then it’s not strange!

Do you work with an assistant? I shoot with my hubby. We make a great team, and the bride and groom each get equal attention on the big day!

What would you say is your style? Bold, punchy, romantic and whimsical!

Who is the person you most admire? We both admire Justin and Mary Marantz. Not only are their images gorgeous, but they are incredible people. We are so inspired by their business philosophy, how their treat their couples, and how they are such a strong team.

What is your proudest moment in your business? Getting our first magazine feature! It was a 2 page feature in Destination Weddings & Honeymoons magazine, which is a magazine that inspired us when we planned our wedding in Jamaica!

The Essential Plan B- The Rainy Day

Unfortunately, we (the wedding planners) can not control the weather...yet. So to avoid huge disasters we have Plan B. What happens when you have outdoor ceremonies and the weather is not cooperating? Having a back up plan could you save your wedding day from being a wash out. Make sure your venue has an area that you can use just in case the weather turns sour. If they don't have the space or you are using your yard, you should check into getting a tent. The tent should be large enough to accompany your guest, dancing, movement and room for vendor set ups such as dj, caterer,etc. But having a tent is not enough, you should also invest in flooring, otherwise you are looking into soggy, muddy feet. None of the ladies will appreciate their heels covered in gook.

If you are not having an outdoor wedding or ceremony and it is just the matter of getting from the car to the venue, make sure you have a large umbrella handy and someone to hold it for you. You will have your hands full with your gown. You may want to have an usher handy for those who are coming and didn't have an umbrella handy just to escort them from their car into the building. Also have a place where guest can put there umbrellas close to the entrance so they are not dripping water all over the floors and prepping for a potential accident.

1. Incorrect Guest Count - I have seen it time and time again...empty seats, empty tables of guest that R.S.V.P-ed and didn't bother to show up. Normally we ask guest to R.S.V.P at least a month to three weeks prior to a wedding but you really should call those guest who reserved first to reconfirm their arrival. When one hears you are getting married and they are invited, they are very excited for your occasion and want to celebrate with you but unfortunately life does get in the way.Call your guest a week prior to your final count due to your caterer just to double check. Most caterers and hotels ask for a final guest count at least 3 days to up a week of the event. so give Aunt Lucy a call just to make sure she's still coming. You may not catch all of the M.I.A's but you can catch most. Remember your are paying for each and every guest that attends your wedding.

2. Mark Ups- Yes, it happens. Being that you don't get married everyday, you wouldn't know what are good prices and what aren't. Having a planner can help alleviate this problem as they know how to get the best deals. Beware of the "we do everything" vendors...ask for invoices...receipts directly from the vendors. Especially if you are giving them your entire budget and they are paying your vendors.

3. Extra Fees- Cork fees, cake cutting, clean up, etc. Depending on your venue these fees can add up. Make sure you know all fees upfront, before you sign any contracts. How much is it for overtime, security, chairs, tables. etc.

4. Poor Planning- Starting with budget...poor planning can send your pocket soaring. Decide the things that are important to you. Be realistic and responsible. Don't invite the universe to your wedding...if you haven't seen them or spoken to them in a long while...don't invite them. For example, if you haven't seen a person in 5 years why are inviting them? I'm sure your high school english teacher will not be offended. Your wedding day schedule saves you from overtime. Your wedding planner knows how long and in what order your wedding should go without your guest leaving early. Choosing venues that don't fit your budget, yes its beautiful but what comes with the scenery.

5. Sight Buying- Your really excited about the wedding and start buying any and everything "wedding" you see; thinking "oh, this may be cute." or "we may use this". Sit down and think about the direction you want to go. Theme, color, design and go from there. The little purchases really add up.

I LOVE talking weddings. Not only do I get to hear the beautiful love stories but I also get to hear about the brides experience with their wedding vendors. Let's face it talk goes a long way. One thing that I have shared with you is your vendors play a very important role in your wedding day. When you are planning, you sometimes get overwhelmed, after all, we want to save money so we try to choose the least expensive vendor. Please don't get me wrong, cost is important but don't choose a vendor strickly off of this factor.
"One thing I didn't like about my wedding is my photographer. When we met she had a great personality and her portfolio seemed great, plus she was less expensive then everyone else. But when I got my pictures I was so disappointed. The pictures were blurry and I didn't get that many. I also told her I didn't like posed pictures and all the candid shots were horrible."

Well it seemed like she did all the right things. But when I pryed a little deeper, the photographer didn't have any candid shots in her portfolio. One way to avoid this is to ask to see more then one photo book. If this is a legitimate photographer they should have plenty. Ask for past brides references, this gives you a better understanding of how the photographer did the day of the wedding. Did they listen? Were they pushy? Did they occupy all of the couples time.
One of the things I love about one of my favorite photographers is that she is non-intrusive...like a ninja. You wonder how she even got that shot because you certainly didn't see her.

"I asked my friend to take photos because he takes such nice pictures at our other events. The pictures were blurry and out of focus. He took alot of pictures of his girlfriend. He missed the cake cutting because he was eating. I can't get upset with him because it was free gift. But I really wish I hired a professional. I can't get that back."

Your photographer is very important to your overall wedding day. They are capturing the memories you can never replace. A good part of your budget should go to photography. Why spend all that time planning to execute every detail perfectly then skimp out on the photographer.

"I don't remember anything about my wedding. Everything was a blur. I dont' remember our vows, I don't remember our toast. The only thing I remember is my husband leaning over while we were at the alter and whispering...a bead of sweat just rolled down my back."

While pictures say a thousand words, a videographer can capture those moments you can never retrieve. Your vows, you and your fathers dance. the heartfelt toast from your people of honor. The best advice a preacher gave me one day is ~whenu have one of your marital moments and they will come. Read over your vows or pop in that video, it will remind you of why you got married. If neither of you can bring yourselves to say sorry. Leave a rose on the mantel or kitchen counter and that will be your way of saying I am sorry.

"I wished I hired a planner, at least a day of planner. My family and I were running around with our heads cut off. We didn't know when things were suppose to begin. We were trying to decorate prior to the wedding and couldn't find certain things. Everything started late and we ended up paying late fees on the photographer and the DJ."

While everyone doesn't need a planner for the entire length of wedding planning. Have a Day of Coordinator helps. They will coordinate a schedule and execute it to make sure everything is on time. If you have hired a vendor for only a certain amount of hours, the coordinator will schedule important things to be captured so the vendors won't run into overtime. If they see something may be running behind, they can make important changes on the spot without interrupting the flow of your event. They also take care of problems as they arrive so you can relax and enjoy your day. You should feel like the guest of honor not an employee.

How did you get started? My mother took a Calligraphy class when I was young and she taught me how to do it when I was 12. I used it as a hobby for years. I addressed my own wedding invitations, did it as gifts, etc. During a time that our family was struggling financially, a friend asked me to address her son’s wedding invitations and she insisted on paying me for them. She told me to get online and research what other Calligraphers were charging. I did and quickly realized that I too, could start a business like that! I got some business cards, built a website – began talking to people around town and within a month I was up and running! I have not stopped writing since! I am constantly amazed at how it has turned into a successful business.

Best advice you can give to a bride: Think about Calligraphy in the beginning of your planning process. Work it into your invitation budget. You spend a great deal of time picking out that perfect invitation that reflects you and your style. It is the first impression that your guest receive about your wedding and you want to make sure that it’s a good one. You don’t want less than impressive envelopes. Book your Calligrapher early to guarantee that you will have it done in a timely manner. I can’t tell you how many brides make it an after thought. They decide they want it done after their invitations are back from the printer. Then, time is short, and I typically have to turn them away because it is not humanly possible to fit them into my already full calendar.

Invitations need to be mailed to your guests 6 – 8 weeks before the wedding. This means, your list should be done and your invitations ordered and to the Calligrapher 10 – 12 weeks before the wedding. This allows enough time for them to be addressed, for you to check them, have any errors corrected, get them stuffed, stamped and in the mail. The more time you give yourself and the Calligrapher, the less stressful it will be on all parties.

What has been your strangest request? To write on a leather bound Bible. I have written inside of bibles, but never on the outside. I leave that to the professional book binders.

Do you work with an assistant? No – Unless you include my husband who acts as a courier for me on a regular basis!

Your Wedding DJ is not your everyday DJ. It is imperative that you know the difference. Your DJ is your master of ceremonies and not just playing music. Your DJ is a very important vendor for your wedding. If they are providing the music for your ceremony make sure they have the proper equipment and know their cues. Is your ceremony and reception in the same venue but different areas? Can the DJ provide music and flow from ceremony, to cocktail hour to reception without missing a beat. They have to know how to transition from wedding to party. Can they fade the music to make announcements or are they shouting over the music. Make sure they follow the schedule and can pronounce every one's name in the bridal party. If the company has more then one DJ find out exactly who it will be on your day and make an appointment to meet him/her.

How did you get started? Well honestly, in exchange for babysitting. I had two small kids and weird work hours. My neighbor made silk flowers for weddings, so in exchange for babysitting, I would help her with flowers and help her set up at weddings. I have always loved organizing parties and events. Best advice you can give to a bride- Hire professionals and enjoy your day. I am not saying break the bank, but find the best professional for your budget. There aren't any do overs for your wedding day and you don't want to look back and have regrets.

What has been your strangest request? I haven't had one. I try to make all my brides visions come true...with in reason. I haven't had anything outrageous...yet.

Do you work with an assistant? I always have one to two assistants for the ceremony and reception and I have 4 to 5 people for set up.

What would you say is your style? Modern, elegant, I am definitely not a traditional type of girl. I love to think outside of the box and go outside the norm. The one thing I don't like about trends is everyone is doing them. After the first two or three you are ready for something else but you have to wait until the next year. I encourage my brides to do it their way but sometimes...its the trend. LOL.

What is your proudest moment in your business? I organized a major wedding contest. We gave away a $25,000 wedding. Although it didn't get the all the press I was seeking. I still made it happen., when people doubted me. To see your vision grow into something very real is an exhilarating feeling. Each vendor donated their amazing services to bless a couple and every time that couple thinks of their wedding, or looks a photograph or their video they think back to all the vendors that made it possible.

My favorite ice cream is vanilla, you can enjoy it plain or mix it with anything to create something new. I love my family. My favorite color is sage (green). I love the beach, especially at night. I grew up in Southern California, so I am a west coast girl at heart. My children are my life and when I think of them moving out on their own... I cry. My favorite type of food is Italian. My favorite type of dog is the Siberian Husky...such a beautiful creature. I used to think I was tall until my children grew taller...now I feel really short. I love to play the SIMS game. How did you get started? I have my degree from Tufts University. I started my career in the hospitality industry working for several Hyatt Hotels in San Francisco and Lake Tahoe. My hotel background has really helped when working with meeting planners and Brides. I also managed a showroom in the Miami Merchandise Mart for a Women’s clothing line. This gave me great experience on the wholesale and buying end of the business. Buying the flower shop in 2003 seemed like a natural transition, but I had no idea how much I still had to learn about owning my own business. We are still a work in progress.

Best advice you can give to a bride? Trust your vendors. Once you have made the decision of who to use let them guide you. Our floral designers are artists and they need to have the space to be creative. Give us your vision, but try not to micromanage, You will be thrilled with the outcome.

What has been your strangest request? We have made all kinds of things out of flowers—a turkey, a giraffe, a cigarette, a tennis court, a snowman and even a spaceship. We’ve also been asked for an all black flower arrangement and one with no heads on flowers arrangement, just the stalks

Do you work with an assistant? I have 2 amazing floral artists; Amy Dwarika and Lealia Joyner. They are truly the talent behind my business. They are the ones that make “fantasy a reality.”

What would you say is your style? My personal style is really a bit edgy. I like modern mixed with a bit of romance. I definitely like things to be outside the box.

Who is the person you most admire? My Father. He was handsome, successful and loved his family dearly. He also had a very corny sense of humor which several of us have inherited!
Who is the person that inspired you? I am inspired by several amazing women throughout history; Jackie Kennedy-Onasis, Julia Childs, Coco Chanel and Evita Perron. All of these women had incredible style and were able to build business empires on their own at a time when women were supposed to be in the background.

What is your proudest moment in your business? My proudest moment is right now! In this terrible economy for small businesses we are still here! I employ 3 amazing people full time and have many weddings on the books for 2011. Things are moving in a great direction.

I get asked many times about Wedding Videography. Brides feel it is not a necessity because they are on a budget. Just like photography, your wedding dvd is as important. You want to be able to look back on your day. Photography captures your memories, your emotions and the overall wedding, but they don't recall what was said. Even if you don't hire a (professional) videographer for your entire day, you may still want to hire one for the ceremony. I don't mean Uncle Fred...you don't want a shaky video. How did you get started? I started my business in 1998 when I decided I wanted to be a part of my children's life, not someone they said hello & goodbye to. Best advice you can give to a bride “Don’t let anyone tell you what you want!” As a bride about to take the biggest step of her life, she should have guidance, but never do something she truly does not want to do. It’s her day!

What has been your strangest request? That’s a good question. I don’t think I’ve ever had any really strange requests. I get a lot of strange questions though!! “How do you wrap the wrapper around the bar?” I think that one is pretty self-explanatory.

Do you work with an assistant? I work with my daughter, Alyssa. She is not just my assistant but also contributes to the creative end of the business. My son, Jonathan, is an artist who has also done some of the wrappers you see on my site. I suppose I should give my hubby some props, too. He’s my IT guy 

What would you say is your style? I’m very laid back. I let the bride lead me. She knows what she wants, I know how to design it. We work back & forth until it’s perfect. It should be a happy experience, not a stressful one.

Who is the person you most admire? I actually have two people. My Mom. The most incredible woman I have ever known. And my aunt Denyse, fighting MS & never giving up! Two very strong women I am fortunate to have in my life.

It was the perfect day for Jessyca and Ahmad's wedding at the Main Library on October 9th. Their ceremony took place on the third floor. The wedding party carefully decended down the staircase and took their places. Both of Jessyca's parents escorted her to the alter. The ceremony was heartfelt and emotional as they exchanged their vows.

I recently had the pleasure of helping out fellow planner (Yes we do that). The family was very eager and anxious and kept coming to us for things that were already complete or were scheduled to be taken care of. You may think, hmm if it was "scheduled" to be done, then it wasn't done. Well, there are certain things that need to be done, at certain times such as flowers being set out, ice for the glasses, etc. If things are done too early then it will mess things up. Ice melts, flowers wilt, you get the picture.
You have hired your planner either for the day of or been with her from the beginning, trust she will do what you hired her to do. Unfortunately there is always someone who messes it up for everyone and gives us a bad name. This is why you hire experience, knowledge, professionalism and always check references.
If you are constantly trying to micro-manage your planner she will not have time to take care of the important details. If you have hired a vendor we are not so sure about trust us, we are already all over it. We are not responsible for the vendors you hire but we have your back!

Bridal hairstyles are beautiful and elegant. Your hairstyle can complete your entire look. Up, down, curly, straight, finding the right hairstyle for you is very important. If you don't have a regular stylist ask around. You do not want to do anything drastic to your hair just prior to your wedding. There is nothing worse then waiting for your hair to grow back out because of a bad hair cut. If you are deciding to change your hair color, do it early.

Look for a hairstyle that compliments your face. If you decide to get hair extensions and never had them before, try it out before the day of your wedding to see how comfortable you are with wearing them. If you aren't use to having hair in your face try it out, there is nothing more distracting then watching a bride trying to get hair out of her face during the vows.

Space...The Final Frontier

Okay its not the final but it should be the first thing you have in mind when you are booking a venue. Here are some tips on the things you need to consider when booking your venue.

1. Does it fit your budget? Your reception will take up the majority of your budget. This includes the venue, food, decor, etc. . The majority of bridal magazines say your reception should fall around 45 to 47%. So do not take up most of that on your venue. Unless, it is so spectacular you don't need much decor...which brings me to ....

2. How much space needs decor? Some venues are just one big, wide, open space and in order to transfer it you need draping, dance floor, tables and chairs...you get the point it starts to add up. The bigger the space the more you need to fill it. If your ceremony and reception are in same building that is great. You also need to consider, the entrance, the cocktail area, the reception area, are you going to have a lounge? If your cocktail area and your reception are not in the same area then you need to consider your bartender. Are there more than one? Do they have a portable bar?

3. What does the venue include? Does the venue include your tables and chairs? Always ask to see the space. Always ask to see the tables and chairs. Are they standard chairs (consider this when ordering chair covers). Do they have the tables you want? Most brides use the traditional round tables, but the venue may have square tables. Which means less people at a table, and more tables, and linens.

Wedding Programs

Do you need them? Need is such a strong word. Wedding programs is like a stage bill for who is appearing in a play. If you have family out of town or friends and they don't know your wedding party or future spouses family than your wedding program tells who all is involved in your wedding. You should only have a program for your reception. A program for your ceremony is not necessary. You want your guest to enjoy your reception not checking the program to see what comes next. Try to coordinate all your paper products so they have the same flow.

How did you get started? I started out as a freelance newspaper reporter when I was 15. When I was about 20, an editor at the Florida Times Union told me I should take photography classes to make my articles even better since I had to take photos while I was on assignment.

I liked photography and figured why not. I LOVED working in the darkroom. The creative process was so much fun, I could lose myself in there.

I started expanding out and doing newspaper and magazine work for lots of publications across the country. And some of those publications started using my photos more and more and didn’t need a story from me for it—they were just hiring me as a photographer. And suddenly friends and family started asking me to shoot weddings and portraits and everything just kept going from there.

Best advice you can give to a bride: When it comes to the wedding in general, be yourself, don’t let what you think a wedding is supposed to look like dictate how you do your wedding. Do what YOU want, make it personal to you, down to the wedding rings. That’s one of the things I regretted. For example, I wish I would have had color in my wedding rings, but I felt like that wasn’t traditional enough, now I regret getting a ring that everyone else has and isn’t completely me.

When it comes to hiring a photographer, never judge your decision based solely on price, or any vendor based on those parameters, for that fact. Expensive doesn’t mean better and with cheap you typically get what you pay for. Important factors when choosing a photographer include ATTITUDE! You don’t want a photographer whose personality is completely different then yours. I have heard horror stories of mean photographers bossing a bride around to the point where she wanted to cry. That’s horrible! If we don’t get along how am I going to illicit a good smile or get you to pose for those photos you’ll cherish for a lifetime?

If you are dark skinned, you really need to choose a photographer that has experience photographing darker people. Lighter skins reflect light, where as darker skin tones don’t. Think about your HS yearbook photos and how all the dark skinned kids disappeared in the photos—it’s because the photographer didn’t alter the lighting, they got the same lighting as the white kids. Ask to see a wedding album from an African American wedding to get an idea of what your photographer can really do.

And you really should see WHOLE albums from the photographer. Websites only show the best of. You want to know that your photographer can truly handle the whole wedding.

Many people in the wedding industry don’t have a license, and may not be insured. I’ve heard horror stories of people leaving deposits with a vendor only to have them disappear. Make sure you are working with a reputable company. I am licensed with the city and I also carry insurance, which is a big deal. I have had cameras break or jam. So not only do I carry a MINIMUM of 2 cameras to every wedding, but if one were to break the day before a wedding, I have insurance, so I can afford to go get it replaced. A college student or an aunt or uncle may not have that option.

What has been your strangest request? I’m a wedding photographer, but I also do other types of photography including families, pets and boudoir. I occasionally get phone calls from men asking me to photograph them nude. .I photographed one man nude, but that didn't exactly end well. The guy ended up being a pervert and I had to call the police about him. The story around it is hysterical though.

Other than that, one of my largest clients is law enforcement publications—magazines specifically for police and fire fighters. With that I have been asked to where a men’s cup while shooting to protect myself, I was told, lol. That’s probably the funniest, most of the strange things with law enforcement work is either just crazy--like hiding behind a police car in Savannah while a guy with a shotgun was shooting at people—or sad, like photographing crime/death scenes.

Do you work with an assistant? Yes. With weddings of 3 hours or more I always have an assistant with me. This is for my sanity and the brides! The assistant carries equipment, sets up lights while I’m still shooting the bride (saving time) and helps out in general. Sometimes they’ll shoot as well, since they are often interns and training, which means more photos for the bride at no additional charge.

I once had a bride who was running about 3 hours late to her own wedding. She was writing her vows as she was getting her hair done. She had also lost her marriage license, but couldn’t exactly run out to look for it, everything was crazy. I asked her where she thought it was and we sent my assistant out on the hunt, and luckily my assistant was able to find it everything was good.

What would you say is your style? Def. photojournalistic. My Bachelor’s degree is in Communications/Print Journalism, and with the newspaper work, my photos have to tell a story. I like that. I do some posed shots, you kind of have to. But grooms are the first to get tired of smiling, so the photojournalistic style really plays well to them, since after the posed stuff I’m shooting them actually having fun, with real smiles.

Who is the person you most admire? I don’t know. I’m never good with these types of questions. There are people out there that I think should be looked up to. For example, I’ve always been amazed by Oprah, she is a positive person and really built up this media empire from nothing without belittling her values or putting other people down in the process. That is outstanding and inspiring to me. I don’t really just admire one person though, I typically admire traits about different people I meet on a daily basis—whether it’s their ability to laugh at themselves, their values or their business sense.

Who is the person that inspired you? I don’t really have one. I know that I am who I am because of my parents. They are the ones that really shape you. My mother taught me basic principles like “no matter how bad you think you have it, someone else always has it worse.” Both of my parents are very entrepreneurial, and that was def. instilled in me and I’ve never been scared to step out do a business venture because of that.

What is your proudest moment in your business? I keep saying I don’t know, but these questions are hard, lol. I don’t have ONE moment.I've won awards and accolades including recently being named the best wedding photographer in Jacksonville by Bride Magazine, I’m often surprised and shocked by the people around me and how much they love my work or how much they trust me. It really is an honor to be put in charge of people’s wedding photos or to be asked to do something special for someone because they really believe in you. Those are the type of moments that aren’t easily expressed, but really do mean so much.

Weddings have been planned for centuries, and I can't tell you how many times I have heard. I wish I had hired a professional planner. Does everyone need a planner, well, no. This all depends on what type of person you are and if you have the time. It takes well over 260 hours to plan a wedding. Most people, pull in a friend or a family member to help out. But this itself could possibly be a stress factor. Your friends and family mean well but some feel they are doing you a favor and could get stressed out themselves. I have composed a list of reasons to hire a professional planner or consultant.

1.Stress: yes, believe it or not planning a wedding can be very stressful. There are many details that go into a wedding and a wedding planner knows the ins and outs, the dos and don'ts to planning a successful wedding. Stressful things to you is not a big deal to them. Simply because they have dealt with it before. A planner who gets angry and flustered are signs of an inexperienced person. Planners are people too and they do still get frustrated but it is all in how you handle the situation.

2. Budget management: It is very important to establish a budget in the beginning. A wedding planner can distribute your budget based off of your wedding needs. They keep your budget in tact and make you aware if you are starting to go over. Every magazine offers a break down of where your money should go, but a great planner knows how to adjust and make the proper changes while keeping in the margin.

3. Vendor Relationships: Wedding planners spend a lot of time developing and nourishing their vendor relationships. Because of these relationships they can most likely get a better deal and pass the savings on to you. This may not always be the case with every planner but a planner can negotiate contracts and make sure your needs are met.

4. Professionalism and Experience -enough said.

5. Mediator- Its your wedding, but there will be many people who have opinions on how your wedding should be. It could be religious traditions, or the amount of guest you are inviting, even the food you should serve. Your planner/coordinator will be in your corner and work for you to make sure your vision is achieved.

6. Keeps you on track- Reminders, reminders, reminders. Planners know what needs to be done and when they need to be done. Without being pushy or nagging, they can help you get those things done.

7. Venue management- Your planner/coordinator can handle all the little details that come with planning a wedding, floor plans,color coordination, seating charts,etc.

8. Vendors can do their job- Each vendor plays an important part of your wedding. When you don't have a planner it falls on another vendor to fill those shoes. Timeline, organizing family members,set up and delivery. Some vendors may be okay with the extra duties but it takes away from what they are suppose to be doing and eats up valuable time.

9. Your own personal cheer squad: This is a great time in your life. Some brides can't help but stress about their weddings. Your planner will keep you motivated. Remind you why you are having a wedding in the first place. Bring the fun back into planning.

10. Avoid the overcharge: Overcharge fees can be a pain in the butt and can add up quickly. A good planner will have a time schedule made out for the day of your wedding. It is normally arranged based of your vendors and the time they were hired. Your planner is running the show from behind the scenes and makes everything flow smoothly and end on time. Therefore you won't be stuck with a bill at the end of the night.

How to survive the "Bridal Show"

Congratulations to all the new brides who recently got engaged. Wedding season is in the air and one of the most popular places to go...is the bridal show. Yes deciding on which bridal show to visit can be a hassle if you have to pay. The concept is a one stop shop, plan your wedding in one day. This is the furthest from the truth. You are overwhelmed with information and goodies from all the vendors participating and everyone wants your business.
You will receive a giant shopping bag once you arrive, this is to hold all of your goodies. The best thing to do if you truly like a vendor and want to schedule a consultation is to keep their information seperate from the...the bag of doom.

I remember long ago, going to a bridal show and placing everything in....the bag of doom. I tossed it aside once I arrived home and guess what....found it months later and just threw it away. So, I suggest to place your choice vendor business cards in your pocket or have one of your entourage hold them seperately. Everyone wants to schedule the consultation or get you to book. I do highly recommend that you sit and meet your vendor before just booking based off what you see and the bridal show. Unless, you have been following a particular vendor and just wanted to see what they were presenting at the bridal show. You want to make sure you get along, your personalities match and that your vendor will listen to you. Most consultations are free.Wear comfy shoes, there is plenty of walking. To save time print your contact information along with your wedding date on labels. Lastly, bring a camera...take pictures of your favorite vendor booths {ask permission), even if it is just for inspiration. Do not take their design to another vendor...bad form. All brides want to look their best for their big day. You take so long to choose all the right details of the BIG day you want to look fabulous too. So what do you do, vow to loose weight before the wedding day. This only is a lot of pressure. Set a realistic goal. Do you normally work out? Do you loose weight easily? Here are some tips to help you reach your goal:

1. Do not go out and buy a gown smaller then your current size. Brides planning a wedding is stressful enough, and stress affects us all differently. Know your body do you gain weight or loose when you are stressed. Do you tend to overeat, not eat at all? These are important things to know about yourself.

2. Design a excercise and diet plan. All fads do not work. Every time you turn around there is some loose weight quick scheme. All diets do not work for all people. Just because your girlfriend lost weight on the Cabbage Soup diet or the Grapefruit diet does not mean this will work for you. Cut out or limit your sweet intake. I am not a dietician but remember "whites turn to sugar" you know rice, white bread, pototoes etc. Decide how many times you will excercise a week and stick to it. When I was going to the gym on a regular basis, although weight was not melting off of me, I felt more energized, focused and it was a great stress reliever for me. Consult with a professional and discuss your goals, they can help you choose the excerises best fit for you. Don't forget to consult your physician as well.

3.Give yourself enough time to reach your goal. Don't slack of all year and then two months before the wedding expect to drop from a size 12 to an 8.

4.Watch out for salty foods. Salty foods make your body retain water. Remember be healthy. This also goes for alcohol...another no no... plenty of empty calories ladies.

5. This is the most important in my opinion. Do it for the right reasons. Remember your fiance' popped the question just as you are. He loves you. This is the start of your life together. Excercise is always a healthy choice, but don't cause yourself more stress trying to become someone else or the idea of what a bride is suppose to be.

Best advice you can give to a bride: Have a trial run and have all of your vendors come to you!

What has been your strangest request? A bride asked if she could wear a painters mask while I did her hair because of the hairspray.

What would you say is your style? I try to keep on top of the trends in Fashion, Hair and Makeup for my clients. So, I feel like my style is constantly evolving from the exposure.

Who is the person you most admire? Kimtasha Armstrong - I met her about a year into starting my business. She's a very successful Makeup Artist. I admire her professionalism, her amazing talent and beautiful personality. I try to model myself after her as a business woman.

Who is the person that inspired you? I'm going to say Kimtasha, again. Working with her has given me the inspiration to get my business where it is today.

Wedding Etiquette:Thank You Notes

Writing thank you notes at the end of the wedding can be a tiring task but it is something that should be done within three months of your wedding. Your thank you notes should be handwritten and you should try to match your stationery to the theme of your wedding. During the wedding process once you start receiving gifts you should have some method of keeping track of gifts and who sent them. One great program that I give to my brides is the IDO software for couples. There are some free programs out there such as The Knot and similar websites. You can even create a spreadsheet on Excel.

Gifts that arrive prior to the wedding should receive their thank you notes first. Thank them for attending the wedding, don't forget to mention the gift they sent. Don't just say..."Thanks for the great gift." that is not personal, and leads the guest to think you have no idea as to what they sent to you. Personalize each note.
You should also write thank you notes for guest that attended but did not bring a gift. Remember they still took the time out to come celebrate your wedding with you. You should also write a thank you to your vendors, especially for the vendors that went above and beyond. Vendors love receiving recognition for a job well done, and can put your notes into their testimonials. After all didn't you want to see testimonials from prior brides before you booked that vendor.

You should write thank you notes for your engagement party within two to three weeks of the event. Thank you notes for gifts received prior to the wedding should be written as soon as possible but prior to the wedding. You have up to three months to write thank you notes for gifts received the day of your wedding. If you receive any gifts after they wedding they should be written as you receive them.

If you received a monetary gift or chose to do a honeymoon registry, share with your note what the gift was being used towards not the amount received. For instance if you used the money towards the saving for a home, or things purchased for the home, etc. Remember this is the last impression your guest receive of you as a new couple.

What has been your strangest request? I was asked to design a decal for a wife (which looked like her) to put in the corner of her husband’s television screen.

Congratulations to Bobby and Leilani JONES!!!!!!! As you know we ran our "Wedding Wishes" Contest earlier this year. Leilani entered with their story written in fairy tale form you can see it here. Once we chose our lucky winner a date was set for September 27, 2009. We (the vendors) were off to give Leilani and Bobby a spectacular wedding.

What was the catch... the couple had no idea of what to expect. Everything was to be unveiled the day of the wedding.

The couple was asked to fill out a sheet listing, their favorite colors, their hobbies, and how they envision their wedding day. They weren't allowed to discuss it with one another or show the other what they wrote. From this simple assignment, I took their love for diving and created an Underwater Fantasy theme. The day was beautiful. We arrived at the Queens Harbour around 1:30 pm to set up the decor. The bride and her bridal party arrived for the brides appointment with Casey Does Hair. Leesa Askew was providing her make up.Kelley from Kelley's Bloom Room did an amazing job on the bouquets and floral decor. While the bridal party was getting ready we began transforming the dining room into the underwater fantasy with linens,lighting, starfish, seashells, and more. Before we knew it was showtime. I left my staff to make sure the little details were in place and made sure the guest were seated.

The beautiful aisle runner with the couples custom monogram was created by Customized Wedding Creations and shipped from New Jersey.

The bride chose her two sons to walk her down the long path to the aisle where her father awaited and blew a conch shell to announce the brides arrival. An old hawaiian custom.The ceremony was very touching as the couple chose to write their own vows and had a family friend officiate the wedding.The brides eleven year old cousin read a beautiful poem. They also decided to combine their union with the sand ceremony.

Once the ceremony was over, the guest enjoyed hors d'oeuvres while the wedding party and family took formal pictures with Corinna Hoffman.

When the guest entered they were in awe, the tables were draped in robin egg blue and white, each table setting had a menu with seashells adorned with various seashells, no two were the same. They each also had a small wooden blue and white box, inside they found chocolate seashells lying on a bed of sand (brown sugar).

It was finally time to announce for the first time Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Jones!!!! The couple went into their first dance. The wedding party outlined the dance floor as we all watched the love that flowed between the two. The bride then danced with her father (who recently retired from 28 years of service) was dressed in his army dress blues. Suddenly the music came to a screeching halt and the Twist by Chubby Checker blarred from the speakers. Leilani and her sisters (her Matron of Honor and bridesmaid) all surrounded their father and begin doing the twist, what was the shock was her father took it down to the floor. LOL! Milton from McGee Entertainment provided the musical entertainment throughout the evening.

It was time to cut the cake provided by Metro Custom Cakes. Trish and her husband Steve Mullican did a fantastic job. The cake table was decorated with seashells and blue orchids and lights. The evening came to an ended when the couple drove away in the stretched limo courtesy of Actionville Limo and was retired at the one bedroom suite at the Homewood Suites by Hilton.

You and your planner have poured a year of your life executing the perfect wedding.

No matter your budget you have invested a small fortune in your day.

You have chosen your perfect dress.

You spent hours deciding what color and types of linens you would use.

You are sick of cake because you tasted so many to get the right combination.

The venue, the shoes, your jewerly, his tux, your flowers, the decor, your grandmother Georgia.

You have guest flying in from all over the country and...Uncle Bob is taking the pictures.

The day finally arrives, you rip open the walmart packaging and you find pictures of the floor, dark shadows , blurred pictures of your dress, you thought he got that shot of you cutting your cake, must have missed that one. You never noticed that huge pimple on your cheek. You could have sworn the colors were more vivid than that on the day of your wedding. Why are there so many pictures of your co-worker Jill. No one is smiling in your posed shots.

There are no do-overs on your wedding day. While we all can't afford the most luxurious photographers out there. There are professional photographers out there within your budget. Hire them to take your engagement photos or some family photos and this will tell you how this particular photographer works and you can better tell if they are a match for you. Find out will they have a second shooter? Do they have a back up camera? How many hours will they be available? How much do they charge if the reception happens to go in to overtime? Basically do your research and don't jump at the price because they are less expensive. Remember this is an investment.

Out of all the wedding advice on money saving tips. Do not skimp on your photographer. You should ask to see more then one couples wedding. Ask for references, as the couple how the photographer worked with them. Do you prefer candid shots or posed shots. Find out what style your photographer uses. I had one wedding where the photographer actually brought in a back drop and monopolized all the couples and wedding parties time taking posed shots. Can your photographer catch you while you are moving or do you have to continually stop to get the shot.

Most photographers have a blog, follow them and you can see the style and have an idea of what to expect. Money should not be your primary goal making the choice. You will have these pictures for all time, do you want to think back and say..."I shoulda, coulda, woulda..." or do you want to think back and say..."Wow, what an amazing day, and I am so pleased with my pictures."

Our Wedding Wishes Contest Winners Bobby and Leilani were married on September 27th at the Queens Harbour. Everything turned out spectacular. I am sure it was hard for Bobby and Leilani, once they were notified that they had won the contest they were informed of the rules and stipulations. They were allowed to choose their colors, food choices, flavors of their cake, and tuxedo's but everything else was a surprise. They did not get to see anything until the day of their wedding. Can you imagine...lesson here... trust your planner and your vendors. I chose an "Underwater Theme" based on the couples love of diving.

Keeping Your Guest Entertained

I was looking through a magazine and was reading about games to play during the reception at a wedding. Help your guest turn awkward silence into warm camaraderie with clever games that will encourage socialization. Entertainment for your guests, you don't want the boring event where you are sitting there waiting for the next part. Games to play during the wedding that include bride and groom and also guest or games to entertain guests while bride and groom are going from table to table. One game that I thought was cute is the Kissing Tree Game, The guest pull a question from the tree, the DJ or MC reads question (questions about the bride & groom only). If the guest correctly answers the bride and groom will kiss. Giving a prize would be cute also.

Another game was I Knew You When…. This bold time line serves as a three- dimensional reminder of when you first met your guest. How to play: During cocktail hour, each guest sticks a flag into the year she met the bride or groom. How to make it: Save clip art on a disk. Have it printed on oversized paper and mounted to foam board at a print shop. Cut flags from origami or scrapbooking paper; punch two holes and thread a corsage pin though. Stick into fabric-wrapped foam bard on a try.

Double The Fun, Hoping your college roommate chats up your future husband’s childhood friend? Find- your-match cards are a sweet way to ensure they’ll meet. How to play: Announce the rules early in the evening. Each guest will receive a card with a name of one half of a famous couple-and will have until the end of the night to fine its mate. Make it: Download and print heart cards into cards stock. White a famous pair on each card, with one name on either side of the heart. Cut out card along their outer edges, and then cut each down the middle with decorative scissors. Place one card at each table setting.

My favorite game that I really liked was What’s In A Name; Some guests are too shy to share their life stories. Help them bypass the small talk and go straight for the good stuff with introductory cards that reveal shared interests or personal triumphs. How to play: When a guest slides out her place card she'll see an arrow pointing to the left with the name of the person seated there, plus an interesting tidbit ex: "Joel was a Connecticut tap-dancing finalist!.” A second arrow shares info on the person seated to her right. Make it: Download editable clipart, and then customize a card for each guest. Print onto card stock and cut out, using a craft punch to round the corners.

Years in Business. I’ve been teaching dance for over 10 years, originally in a franchised studio, and the last couple of years as an independent contractor.

How did you get started? I started as a student in a dance studio when I was in college – a friend took me to a “Champagne Guest Party,” and the first time an instructor in a suit held out his hand and said to me, “May I have this Waltz,” I was hooked! After taking Ballroom dance lessons on and off throughout college, I finished my Bachelor’s degree in biology and promptly joined the next available training class in the dance studio. Eventually, I worked my way back to my hometown of Jacksonville, where my teaching career really began to root.

Best advice you can give to a bride. Spend more time working on the relationship than you do on planning the wedding.

What has been your strangest request? Once, a mother-of-the-bride hired a couple of dance instructors to attend her daughter’s wedding reception, theoretically to encourage the guests to get up and dance. Once there, we found out that it was primarily so that the mother could dance a few solos with the male instructor. My job was pretty much to hand the music to the D.J. and make sure my partner got out of there safely!

Do you work with an assistant? Not formally, but a few of us independent dance teachers keep a casual association that allows us to help each other develop and grow.

What would you say is your style? “No Frills” – it’s not just a name! I’ve been in the business a long time, and I’ve created my own low-key, yet professional, style. I want to teach without the ‘strings’ or hassles that you sometimes find at the big dance studios, and I’ve found there are a few students out there who want to learn that way as well. I don’t have a big, chandeliered ballroom full of fashionable-looking instructors dancing amongst a student body of 100 people. But I do have excellent teaching skills, a love of dance, and a passion for passing along what I know at the pace and in the way that suits the individual I’m working with. All at a reasonable rate, with no long commitments or binding contracts. That’s what I call learning to dance with No Frills!

Who is the person you most admire? My husband! We are alike in all the ways we need to be compatible, and different in all the ways I need to grow. And when I am confronted with those aspects of me that are particularly difficult to change, I find that my weaknesses just happen to be his strengths.

Who is the person that inspired you? Originally? It’s hard to say because I came to dance later in my life than you’d normally expect. But back when I was new to dance, I loved to watch Fred Astaire’s movies – not for the plots, but for the dancing. I still think (and I’m not alone in the dance world) that he was the consummate dancer – he could do anything. If he were alive today, he’d be at the forefront of tap, hip-hop, Ballroom, you name it.

What is your proudest moment in your business?
My proudest moment came at the end of a long teaching day. My last lesson was a couple, and the wife seemed a little out-of-sorts during the lesson. We pressed on, and I gave it my best to make it as fun and easy as I could for her energy at the time. By the end of the hour, I was exhausted and unsure that they had gotten anything out of the lesson. They had only been out the door about 10 minutes when she called as they were driving home. She said, “You know, Tonya, I really had an awful day today, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to come tonight. But you know what? You were the best thing that happened to me today. Thank you.” In that moment, I knew exactly why I do what I do.

I was the first to arrive of course. Had to unload the truck. It was a beautiful day. A bit hot but that's Jacksonville, FL. especially in the summer.

Many times we are hard at work and never really have time to stop and take pictures of what we are doing. Here is a behind the scenes picture of one of our recent weddings at the Friday Musicale. We had to get there early to set up all the table clothes and chair covers. Once we got that set the florist was able to come in and set up the arrangements.

You are constantly double checking things to make sure everything is perfect. Detailed oriented is definitely one of the keys to success of wedding planning.

Just a quick sit down picture then back and running. Don't worry, I do change before the ceremony and put shoes on. LOL.

Here is our newest intern Grace Morris. She is great. She jumped right in and got the job done. Good job Grace!

The Stephanotis is one of my favorite flowers. It is a small white beautiful flower. It does carry a very strong fragrance, so beware. It is one of the favorites among bridal flowers. It has a waxy feel and a trumpet body and leathery leaves.
