Behind the Scenes

I was the first to arrive of course. Had to unload the truck. It was a beautiful day. A bit hot but that's Jacksonville, FL. especially in the summer.

Many times we are hard at work and never really have time to stop and take pictures of what we are doing. Here is a behind the scenes picture of one of our recent weddings at the Friday Musicale. We had to get there early to set up all the table clothes and chair covers. Once we got that set the florist was able to come in and set up the arrangements.

You are constantly double checking things to make sure everything is perfect. Detailed oriented is definitely one of the keys to success of wedding planning.

Just a quick sit down picture then back and running. Don't worry, I do change before the ceremony and put shoes on. LOL.

Here is our newest intern Grace Morris. She is great. She jumped right in and got the job done. Good job Grace!

Here I am with the lovely bride Kimberly Wakefield-Aiken. She was dropping by before heading to the hotel.

I would just like to thank Cindy Coates who came out and took all of the photos for us. She even jumped in and put on some chair covers.

Floral Friday: Stephanotis

The Stephanotis is one of my favorite flowers. It is a small white beautiful flower. It does carry a very strong fragrance, so beware. It is one of the favorites among bridal flowers. It has a waxy feel and a trumpet body and leathery leaves.

The Stephanotis is in season all year long. This flower means marital bliss. It is also known as the madagascar jasmine or bridal veil.

Vendor Spotlight: The Fusion Band

Vendor Spotlight: The Fusion Band (Allana Southerland)

Your name? Allana Southerland
Company Name: The Fusion Band
Blog on
Years in Business 9
How did you get started? My band started because I was performing at a bar and grill and someone liked the the way I played. They asked for me to form a band for the event they were having. I called it fusion because I fused alot of different members from different bands together to form it. That was it, The Fusion Band was formed. We now also offer DJ services and Cover 2, a sax and drum combo with background tracks.
Best advice you can give to a bride - Don't stress out. Plan in advance and if it doesn't go exactly right, it's ok.
What has been your strangest request? To perform inside of a big glass bubble for the Superbowl in Jacksonville, FL. It was a party for football coaches and VIP. It was strange and fun!
Do you work with an assistant? Yes my husband helps me. He also plays drums in the band.
What would you say is your style? The band's style is Variety. We can play anything from Old time Rock n' roll to Jazz. Our clients enjoy the wide range for all ages and all occasions. We are also very professional.
Who is the person you most admire? My grandparents. They taught me to be an entrepreneur and at an early age I learned that. It has made me more successful in business. I also admire Kirk Whalum, the best contemporary saxophonist in my opinion!
Who is the person that inspired you? My teacher in high school encouraged and inspired me to achieve my goals and go further with my music career.
What is your proudest moment in your business? I was excited to perform for charities such as the United Way. I also enjoyed performing as the only female saxophonist in the University of North Florida's Jazz Band.

Bridesmaids Dresses

Long past are the days that Brides chose bridesmaids dresses that were hideous because they didn't want anyone looking better than them. Today bridesmaids dresses are more modern and chic and you could actually wear it again. I suggest the first time you search for your bridesmaids dress shop alone. You could possibly take one person to try on the gown, but you do not want everyones opinion drowning out your desire. Keep in mind the pricing and remember every style does not flatter everybody.

Vera Wang

Eden Bridal

One great trend that I was happy to welcome was to pick the colors and possibly the material and let your bridesmaids choose their own style. The reason I say the material because you don't want three of your bridesmaids choosing satin or chiffon and one bridesmaid showing up in jersey knit. They could either choose one particular style of dress or mix & match with seperates.

Alfred Angelo

By taking into reasonable consideration how your bridesmaid may feel wearing the gown you will have a happier wedding party and less stress.

Floral Friday: Calla Lily

The Calla Lily strong and beautiful with their trumpet like petals and tall green stalks. The white or ivory calla lily is the most common and the most seen but they also come in shades of purple, pinks, yellow, orange and greens. They are used in weddings often. Although callas grow throughout the year, colors vary throughout different seasons and will determine the price.

Pictures from the

As you can see calla lillies make great wedding bouquets in either the mini or large. You can use many or just a few and it would still make a great bouquet. The Calla Lily symbolizes purity and magnificent beauty and can last for 7 to 10 days.

If you decide to focus on the Calla Lily as the theme, there are a plethora of items you can by from ceremony items to your wedding favors.

My Birthday Wish Cake

Okay whomever made this cake was channeling me, do you disagree? What does the monogram P mean you ask... Pratically Perfect in every way of coarse. Silly rabbit, this cake was made for me. I found this beauty on Cake Central thanks to Trish of Metro Custom Cakes (who made an awesome replica btw). Its a 7 tiered wedding cake designed with Swarovski crystals. I love the damask design. Today is my birthday and this would be my ideal birthday cake, scale it down a bit and VOILA! Everything that I love, damask, sage green, bling, pintuck...I have died and gone to cake heaven.

New Pic

I just had a new headshot done by Christy Whitehead Photography. Tell me what you think. My make up was done by a Make Expressions by Staci as you can see they both did a fantastic job.I haven't had a professional picture done in a long time. I know that is really bad, been meaning to get around to it but you all know how that is. Christy offered to take my headshot. She is very sweet and really knew how to make me comfortable to get a real shot and not the fake smile I kept giving out.  Thank you Christy and Staci!!!!

Its all about Ruby!

Guess what Ruby's wedding was mentioned in Jacksonville's Magazine. You remember Ruby don't you. Our fun-loving bride that got married in March at the Jacksonville Zoo. Well this blog is dedicated to Ruby. I love planning a wedding where the bride is open to suggestions. I remember when I suggested the Jacksonville Zoo to her; her reaction was the same as anyone who hasn't visited the zoo lately. Once we had our on-site tour she was sold. I gathered a great team for Ruby and together we created the fun and awesome wedding (It doesn't hurt to have a great couple). Corinna Hoffman was the artistic force behind all the photographs from engagement to wedding and yes even trash the dress.
Ruby thank you for being you. I loved working with you! This is for you...

Ruby and Mikes wedding was featured on the Truly Engaging Blog. You can also find blogs about Ruby on Kelley's Bloom Room blog and Corinna Hoffman Photography.
